THE CLABA ARCHIVE
Inside the game.
Its history, its ideas and the reasons to come back.
An ambulance waits on the right and the building's windows burn on the left. In Bouncing Babies you direct two firefighters holding a stretched sheet: their job is to catch the little ones as they fall and give them the bounces needed to reach the vehicle. The next fall can begin before you have finished dealing with the previous one.
Dave Baskin is the author of this 1984 DOS game. The title screen explains the controls over the scene itself: Space starts and keys 1, 2, and 3 place the firefighters in the three available positions. The RetroBat copy keeps the CGA graphics, the PC speaker sound, and the English text.
Three positions and several falls
The sheet does not move freely along the whole street. Each key takes the team to a specific spot: left, center, or right. The challenge is to anticipate where the next fall must be caught and change position before it reaches the ground. A successful bounce can still leave work pending elsewhere on the screen.
The scoreboard counts the rescues and the top of the screen shows the chances remaining. When several trajectories coincide, watching only the one who has just left the window is of little use: it matters more to attend first to the one closest to needing the sheet.
The original and its speed patch
The ZIP contains BBABIES.EXE and a small additional program, BBABIESP.COM. Its documentation identifies the latter as a 1997 speed patch, signed by dOnut. Both are kept in the download, but the player uses the original executable with a fixed DOSBox speed, without applying that patch to the game file.
The cover reproduces its authentic title screen. The screenshots come from a game played on the DOS copy.

THE SECRET SIDE OF THE GAME
Tips, tricks and secrets.
A hint at the right time. A code that changes everything.
Tip: don't just follow the window
There may be several characters in the air. Before moving the tarp, check who needs the next bounce, even if they have been on screen longer.
Tip: learn the keys as positions
Think of 1, 2 and 3 as left, center and right. Pressing the position you need is more precise than trying to move the tarp as if it were a walking character.
Tip: check again after every bounce
A trajectory can change height and stop being the most urgent one. Use that margin to catch another fall that is about to reach the bottom.

THE NEXT STEP, CLEARER
Guides to move forward.
From the first installation to that mission that won't give in.
Starting and positioning the firefighters
Press Space to start. 1 puts the tarp on the left, 2 in the center and 3 on the right. The intro shows these instructions before the game. Esc ends the game; the player's bar lets you pause it without returning to the title.
Dealing with the falls in order
Look at which character is closest to the ground and put the tarp under them before dealing with the next one. After a bounce, follow the new trajectory: reaching the middle of the street does not mean the rescue is over.
Reading the scoreboard
The top line shows the wave, the score and the remaining chances. Check that the score goes up when a trajectory ends at the ambulance. Switching position in time matters more than holding a key down.
Running the download in DOS
Unzip all the files and run BBABIES.EXE in DOSBox. BBABIESP.TXT explains the additional 1997 patch. The browser package keeps the original binaries and regulates the speed from its configuration, without replacing the original executable.
